Celeborn of Doriath
01. History
Celeborn is the Sindarin Prince of Doriath and nephew of Elu Thingol, King of Doriath. He was born around YT 1300 in Middle Earth and is therefore considered a "Dark Elf" or Moriquendi, who never saw the light of the two trees.
Celeborn's parents are presumed dead or taken by Morgoth's creatures. He and his younger brother, Galathil, were raised by Thingol and Melian themselves as wards.
His native language is Doriathrin Sindarin, although he speaks common Sindarin and a smattering of Green Elven languages fluently. He understands Quenya but refuses to speak or listen to it in keeping with the laws of Doriath.
Comfortable both on the battlefield and in council, he is a warrior and a diplomat trained by Thingol himself. Like many Sinda, he prefers the battleax to the sword.
02. Personality
Though he is deemed wise, Celeborn is hot-headed and can be aggressive when provoked, a common trait amongst the Sindarin royalty. However, he is more prone to blunt words when in a temper, rather than rash actions. He holds grudges and is slow to forgive.
At his worst, he can trend toward arrogance and become immovably stubborn. At his best, he is extraordinarily caring and prone to consider opinions from those not ordinarily given a voice. He has a wicked sense of dry humor that he often deploys when least expected, as well as a knack for remembering thoughtful details often forgotten by others.
Celeborn is naturally curious, at times to his own detriment, and the unknown retains an irresistible lure for him. Any hopes that others may harbor of him "taming" Galadriel, either as a friend or a lover, will inevitably be dashed. He is equally as capable of starting trouble himself or landing in it. His greatest love has always been the forests and wilds of Middle Earth, and he prefers to be outdoors.
03. Appearance
Celeborn has the striking silver hair of Sindarin royalty and he typically keeps it long and unbound. His eyes are a pine green so deep they are nearly black. As his name and lineage indicates, he is among the tallest of the Eldar at nearly 7 feet (213 cm). As he prefers to be active, he keeps in shape and is quite fit. In the summer he often develops a deep tan from being constantly outdoors.
